Road Inventory and Conditions Survey (RICS), is the process by which a country acquires data on the road assets to enable them make evidence-based decisions on how to invest in physical infrastructure. Geodev (K) Ltd was contracted by Kenya Roads Board (KRB) to carry out the RICS study on the National Trunk Roads network over a 24-month period. The Project commenced on 1st December 2021 and is slated for completion close of November 2023. In addition to the National Trunk Road network, Geodev (K) Ltd is responsible for merging, cleaning and editing all zonal data that was collected by four other consultancies into a seamless dataset, develop a linear referencing system and prepare Road Register for the entire road network in Kenya.
The ultimate goal is to obtain crucial roads data that will serve as the foundation for informed decision-making, with the RICS database being transferred to the client, the Kenya Roads Board.

The survey adopts a multi-layered methodology that combines both field visits and utilization of advanced data sources for Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping. While field visits provide firsthand data collection, the project also has provisions for alternative data acquisition approaches, in the event that field visits are not possible.
