The above project was awarded to Geodev (K) Ltd and Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats Pvt Ltd (ICT) and commenced on the 15th of September 2014. The project was completed in October 2019.

2. THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
The project involved upgradation/ improvement of existing gravel road to two lanes bituminous standard (Super pave Asphalt Concrete) with paved shoulders

THE MAIN ACTIVITIES OF THE PROJECT INCLUDED
The project was executed in two distinct phases, namely Phase A, which encompassed the Detailed Design, and Phase B, which involved Construction Supervision. Additionally, the project incorporated the development of existing water pans to promote water conservation in the project roads area, the installation of streetlights, and the relocation and/or protection of other services, including but not limited to water pipes, sewer pipes, street lighting, power, and telephone. The benefits derived from the project are manifold, including the enhancement of economic development regions through road construction, improved transportation connectivity, which facilitates ease of movement from one place to another, job creation, better transportation of goods, and increased safety resulting from the construction of good roads.

KEY INSPIRATIONS IN THE PROJECT
The design should consider factors such as traffic flow, safety, pavement structure, drainage, geotechnical engineering and environmental impact.

The length covered by the project was 70.14km.

The project was located in Machakos and Muranga Counties.

The project’s client is Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Public works, Housing and Urban Development State Department for Housing and Urban Development under the National Government.
