ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT (EA) OF KISIMA - KIBIRICHIA - KIIRUA - RUIRI ROAD PROJECT IN MERU COUNTY

Project in brief

Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) is mandated to develop, construct and maintain the rural road network in the country as per the Kenya Roads Act, 2007. In line with this, KeRRA embarked on upgrading to bitumen standard of Kisima-Kibirichia-Kiirua-Ruiri road. As a result, Geodev (K) Limited was competitively awarded the contract

 

The goals and objectives that the  project will have includes and not limited to ; Identification of  the past and present impacts of the project, the  responsibility and assess proficiency of the operators of the project, To assess the existing internal control mechanisms for identifying and mitigating activities with negative environmental impacts, To assess the existing internal control mechanisms to ensure the workers’ health and safety, To assess the existence of environmental awareness and sensitization measures, including environmental standards, and regulations, law and policy, for the managerial and operational personnel of the road projects managerial and operational personnel of the road projects, To assess compliance to the approved Environmental and Social management plans and conditions of the Environmental Impact Assessment Licenses issued for the road project and To document emerging positive and negative impacts as a result of the road project .

 

The benefits derived from the project include; offer recommendations on measures to remedy the adverse impacts that have occurred and measures are prescribed to protect the environmental soundness of the area and prevent potential events that could jeopardize its realization of the project’s intended socioeconomic benefits.
