The project was awarded to Geodev (K) Ltd on 25th April, 2017 and signed on 21st June, 2017. The order to commence was issued on 28th June, 2017 and work commenced on 5th July, 2017. The consultancy period is scheduled to take twelve weeks from the date of commencement. The services are for Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed road in Kakamega County. EIA is mandatory for major development projects according to the Environmental Management and Coordination (Amendment) Act, 2015 and the Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit Regulations 2003.
Goals and objectives of the project include identifying and describing potential environmental, cultural, and social effects of building the proposed roads, analyzing and evaluating anticipated effects on the physical, biological, social-cultural, and social-economic environment, identifying and analyzing alternatives to the proposed road works, and assessing the road design suggested in the engineering report and taking into account its effects on social management and monitoring plan.
Advantages expected to result from the project are a rise in property value, the creation of jobs, increased project area development, and the transfer of skills and technology
Scope of the project
The project road (D266) is approximately 26 Km in length and traverses across 5 locations namely Lubinu, Malaha and West Bunyala, Ibokolo and Shianda
